After visiting a couple of other karate clubs (one of them in a school), I came across Kernow Karate on the Internet. I read through the Parents comments and felt this could be the right club for my son.
He has now been attending for a few months and absolutely loves it! He practises every day and looks forward to Sundays. At the moment he attends once a week but when the opportunity arose for an extra session, he jumped at it!
I really feel that he has gained in confidence, his posture has improved and he is learning lots about self defence and also self control.
It is a very friendly club and all the instructors are always approachable and do a brilliant job with the children.
I would be more than happy to leave Sam at the club during the lesson but choose to stay as I find it fascinating to watch!
I would highly recommend the club to anyone thinking of joining.

....all of a sudden he's looking up, his confidence has improved tremendously and even his schoolwork has improved. Thanks very much for your patience and encouragement.

My children (daughter age 8 and son age 6) joined the club just over a year ago. They have progressed through their belts at a pace suited to each of their abilities. We had previously been going to a different karate club but both my husband and I were disappointed at the lack of interest the instructors appeared to have in the children's progress. The focus seemed to be on putting the children through the different levels as quickly as possible regardless of whether or not they had actually learnt anything. After attending for six weeks we realised that the children hadn't learnt any of the basics and so we decided to try Kernow Karate.
The difference was apparent immediately. Paul and the other instructors are keen to keep the children's interest going. They ensure that the children are split into their suitable ability levels and therefore instruction is given according to attention span - quite a feat with my six year old son! The club has a really friendly atmosphere and it is really nice to attend on a Sunday morning as a family (even my one year old enjoys the running around before hand although for some reason they won't let her join in yet!).

"My son has been in club for 2 years and is now 8 years of age. He is a quiet boy (although like most kids he has his noisy moments!), and at present doesn't like the mainstream sports: i.e. football. Being quiet and relatively small for his age, I felt he needed to do something that would keep him fit and would build his confidence.
I am pleased to say that the club hasn't disappointed. My son still enjoys his weekly Karate sessions with Kernow Karate even after 2 years and I believe his confidence and co-ordination has also benefited considerably from his attendance.
In addition, I feel other strengths of the club is its focus on a variety of areas including self defence, and the child friendly helpful manner of the instructors.

Since my daughter has been training with Kernow Karate in the cadets class, I have watched her become dedicated, fitter and grow in confidence. As a father, it is also reassuring that in this day and age she has a knowledge of self- defence.
Now that we train together, it is a great way for the two of us to spend some quality time together and share an interest such as Karate, the element of competition between us drives us both on and It will be a proud moment when she gets her black belt.

Just wanted to thank you for the time you have spent with (son). He enjoys his training time so much - after every session he spends about half an hour going up and down the hallway practising his kicks!
From my point of view I like the way you handle the children - not too strict so as to frighten them but not too lenient either. I have found (son) concentration has improved so much recently and I can only put it down to the time and patience you have put into him.
Thank you to you and your instructors.
